Frequently asked questions

Does it change my original files?

No. Exports are written as new files, and the app refuses to overwrite a source file even if you choose Replace as the collision policy.

Which formats does it open and export?

Opens JPEG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF and WebP. Exports JPEG, PNG, WebP and HEIC. Export formats are checked against your Mac’s installed encoders at launch; anything your macOS can’t encode is shown disabled rather than failing later.

What is a Routine?

A saved recipe of steps. The editor always works on a copy, so you can change steps for today’s batch without touching the saved Routine. Use Update Routine to write the changes back, or Save as Routine… for a new one.

What does the crop canvas do?

A crop with a canvas exports every image at exactly that pixel size. The frame can sit past the edge of an image; the uncovered part becomes transparent padding, or a colour if you add a Background step. A crop without a canvas keeps each image’s own size.

Does it need the internet?

No. The app makes no network connections at all. Everything runs on your Mac.

Where are my Routines stored?

Locally, in the app’s sandbox container. They are removed if you delete the app.

Keyboard shortcuts in the crop editor?

Tab / Shift-Tab pick a handle, arrows resize or move (Shift for ×10), + and − zoom, 0 fits, R resets, Return applies, Escape cancels.

How much does it cost?

Image Routine is free on the Mac App Store. There are no in-app purchases.

What does it run on?

macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
